Aviation Operations

Our aviation program supports all key operations at CCMCD. From quick surveillance of hard to reach areas, to night time adulticiding treatments after a major storm and even the occasional public outreach event. By far it is most useful in quickly treating large areas to control mosquito larvae.

Larviciding Operations

Our larviciding program is an ecologically friendly, preventive method to interrupt the development of immature mosquitoes before they turn into flying, biting adults. Controlling mosquitoes at the source where they live and reproduce is crucial to our integrated mosquito management approach.

Surveillance

Our surveillance department monitors mosquito populations and mosquito-borne disease occurrences throughout Citrus County. They are also responsible for research efforts, sorting through all of our mosquito traps, and identifying larval and adult mosquito samples brought into our laboratory.

Adulticiding Operations

Our adulticiding program consists of treating adult mosquitoes that are present flying around in the environment. Using an ATV, or ULV spray truck, we can accurately and efficiently target flying mosquitoes if surveillance trap counts, service requests, or landing rates deem it necessary.

Public Education

Public education and community engagement is critical to preventing mosquitoes from taking over our yards, neighborhoods, and livelihoods. We equip citizens of all ages with the necessary tools to "fight the bite" during school programs, outreach events, and club presentations.
